Certified Metabolic Balance Coach | Holistic Health & Transformational Nutrition Coach | Natural Living Advocate | Living Consciously in Oregon, USA.

Hi, I’m Megan Paterson—a holistic health coach and lifelong advocate of natural living. My journey began in the 60s and 70s, growing up with a mother whose Italian heritage infused our meals with love and creativity. I grew up eating wholesome home-cooked meals made entirely from scratch.  She had a way of lovingly introducing us to new foods in a way that intrigued us.  She taught us that food was something to be experienced, shared and ...cherished.  This was the norm for us that I took for granted, not knowing how different we were becoming from the direction most Americans were going with food.  My mother instilled in me a deep respect for food and all that it provides for our senses, our spirits, and our overall quality of life--values I’m deeply grateful for still today.

Metabolic Balance is a personalized, science-backed nutritional program that addresses the root cause of metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance.  It subsequently balances hormones, reduces inflammation, reverses cardiovascular disease, helps reduce the risk of cancer, and reverses type 2 diabetes.  I’ve seen firsthand how this program empowers people to regain control of their health, avoid the damaging effects of metabolic syndrome, and make lasting, sustainable changes.

What I learned is that our nutritional needs are very individual.  One person’s nourishment is another person’s poison!

As I grew older, I started to notice the items that were filling people's shopping carts at the grocery store. It was apparent that less and less people were learning how to cook,  and food started coming from packages and boxes instead of from farms, dairies, and ranches.

I also noticed that as a nation we were getting sicker and sicker.  One day in my pre-med organic chemistry class I learned that the United States ranked 47th out of 51 western industrialized nations in infant mortality rate, which was a key measure used to gauge the health of a society.  Currently, we are now 51st!  It didn’t seem like anyone else in the class took much notice of this, while I was visibly shocked.  That moment was a turning point for me. I questioned my path in medicine, feeling that something was deeply wrong.

I took a detour from the medical path after this and had many years of soul searching and adventures!  Since my passion for all things natural was alive and well, it became the driving force for getting a BA in Geology (I loved rocks!) which led me to spending an entire year in Antarctica supporting the NSF (National Science Foundation) grantees as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) programmer!

Despite my detour, my heart remained focused on health and wellness. I eventually became a registered nurse, married, and raised a family while homeschooling in Colorado. However, as I deepened my understanding of natural health, I became increasingly disillusioned with the medical system. It became clear to me that there were more effective, natural ways to address health and well-being.

In my quest for all-natural living, I raised my kids on wholesome home-cooked meals made lovingly from scratch, taking after my own mom.  Additionally, I learned how to use herbs and other natural methods for dealing with our family’s health needs and was quite successful.  My conviction grew over time for using what God has so lovingly provided us here on earth to keep us healthy and strong, and it became my life’s passion.  Most of all, FOOD!  Food is thy medicine and thy medicine is food!  FOOD ALONE CAN HEAL.

But I learned that food is not JUST the pleasure of eating, it is also an emotional and social experience.  Food and eating can be associated with pleasure and joy, or it can touch our deepest wounds.  Many people cannot get healthy with just addressing what is on their plate.  Couple that with the present-day food industry and their motivation to increase their bottom line at all costs while colluding with the medical industry’s motives for keeping us sick and dependent upon their pharmaceuticals, well...it seems like the odds are not in our favor if we want to achieve robust health.  But I know one thing for sure – the ONLY way to do that is by working in alignment with God’s principles ie nature.  And nature is NOT created in a laboratory!

In my own journey towards better health, I tried every diet out there—raw vegan, paleo, vegetarian, ketogenic.  After cycling through all those diets, I only became more confused.  Trying to find the one diet that fits us all, one that I could fully subscribe to, simply did not exist and the only conclusion I could make in the end was that we all need to eat more vegetables.  Until I met a woman who got sicker eating vegetables to the point of being too crippled to walk.  Eating only meat, she was healthy and strong!  After having my mind blown about this at the time, there became only one thing I could safely say – and that is that we are all different!

I always wanted to design a program that takes individuality into account.  I wanted to teach people how to eat in a way that kept them connected to their own bodies and connected to others.  It’s all about connections!--to make our tummies feel good as well as our hearts and our souls.  This to me is what food is all about, and the more I can help people experience a new reality around food, the more my life feels fulfilled.

Enter Metabolic Balance!

Just when I was ready for it, after my children are grown and gone and I had more time on my hands, I stumbled upon Metabolic Balance.  It was everything I imagined that I wanted to design myself.  Simple, wholesome, (right down to the apple a day), organic, and personally tailored to the individual!  To make the habits sustainable over a lifetime, it teaches the client to tune in deeply to one’s intuition and sixth sense when deciding what to eat and what not to eat.  Something only that individual will know for himself.  Metabolic Balance® is perfectly designed to do just these things.
